August 2011 Control Freaks Blog Tour – 2011 Holiday Mini Catalog!

CFwelcome

Welcome to the August 2011 Tour de Freaks Blog Hop! We are so excited to have you join us today.

This month we are featuring Projects from the upcoming Holiday Mini Catalog.  There are so many spectacular products in this mini, it was hard to decide what to create!

Our tour is nice and short and features some of your favorite Control Freaks Stampers. You may have just come from my friend Lisa Martz's blog, you may be one of my blog stalkers or you may have just stumbled here…however you got here, you’ll be very glad you did!  Be sure to take the whole tour!  Note:  If you are arriving here on the 19th, please note that not all links may be working yet.  The tour officially begins on the 20th.

I decided to create with products from the Spice Cake Product Suite.  First up is a greeting card.  I started with a strip of Designer Series Paper from the Spice Cake pack which has a wonderful combination of colors.  I then added a strip of mini scallops created with the Dotted Ribbon Scallop Border Punch to bring out the small amount of More Mustard in the paper.  The dots along the other side are done on Soft Suede card stock with the matching ink and the Dot, Dot, Dot single stamp.

Pleats The strip of Pool Party was created by using my NEW Simply Scored Scoring Tool!! I scored lines every 1/2" and 1" and folded them to create pleats.  I adhered the strip to the card with our Sticky Strip. I will post a tutorial after September 1st when I can show you the AWESOME NEW Simply Scored Scoring Tool!!!  This is an absolute "must have item" and I know you will love it!!!

I also wanted to incorporate some of the Spice Cake fabric into my project along with the Spice Cake Designer Buttons so I cut a skinny strip of the Pool Party fabric and threaded it through the button like ribbon, added a 1 3/4 Pear Pizzazz Scallop to the back and attached it to my card with Mini Glue Dots.  The little Jewelry Tag punchout was stamped with images from the Tiny Tags stamp set using our matching Stampin' Write Markers.

Tinytagsspicecakeclose Did you notice the "thread" I used to attach the tag to the button?  It is the super thin border of our 3/8 Taffeta Ribbon.  I used my Craft Scissors to carefully trim the skinny edge from the ribbon and used it as thread.  I now have thread in a number of my favorite Stampin' Up! colors…WOO HOO!!

My second project uses the Matchbox Bigz XL Die as a package to contain three MAGNETS!!!  Yep, I turned these nifty Spice Cake Designer Buttons into MAGNETS!!!

The box used Soft Suede card stock and the same pattern in the Spice Cake DSP pack as I used on the card.  The flower on the top was created with the same Pool Party fabric and the Tasteful Trim Bigz XL die along with a circle of our Sticky Pages.  A tutorial for this will be coming soon.  The middle of the flower is one of our 5/8" Neutral Brads covered with a tiny circle from the Spice Cake fabric.

Spicecakemagnet The magnets were cut from our Magnet Sheets and the Circles #2 Originals Die.  The Magnet Sheets have a sticky side so it was super easy to attach them to the backs of the buttons.  I cut the fabric into a circle using a 1 3/8 circle of card stock as a guide and attached them to the button middles with our Big Shot Multipurpose Adhesive Sheets.  The ribbons were added with Mini Glue Dots.  These magnets were so simple to create and I cannot wait to make some more!!!

That does it for me, your next stop is my super talented and dear friend Dawn Olchefske and I am sure you will love what she has to share.
