Butterfly Basics and the Bokeh Technique

One of the techniques my Technique Geek class attendees learned in January is the Bokeh Technique (pronounced Bo-kay). Bokeh refers to the visual quality of the out-of-focus areas of a photographic image, especially as rendered by a particular lens.

I had tons of fun making mine and I think they enjoyed it too. 🙂

My first one uses only two colors of ink, Perfect Plum and Tempting Turquoise.  How gorgeous is the die cut butterfly.  It makes my heart go pitter, patter every time I cut one out.

Creating the look:
*Choose two or three coordinating colors of ink.
*Pounce a Sponge Dauber into your first color of ink.
*With light pressure, swirl the ink onto a piece of Whisper White card stock creating random patterns.
*Continue with your second color and add a third color if you choose.  *You can overlap them a bit.
*Allow the ink to dry completely.
*Cut a 4×4 piece of Window Sheet and run it through the Big Shot with the three smallest Circle Framelits to create a template.  Place the window sheet over your colored piece.
*POUNCE (using an up and down motion) White Craft Ink into the holes, DO NOT rub as you can contaminate the dauber with color and then contaminate your ink pad.
*Move the mask around the colored piece until you have the coverage you desire.
*Lastly add random dots using just the Sponge Dauber.
*Allow the ink to dry or use a Heat Tool to speed up the process.  *Decorate as desired.

2015_spring_13We are having "Fun with Color" over on my Facebook Page, hop over there to see some of the cool combinations I have been sharing.
