What is Two-Tone Cardstock?

Two-tone cardstock is a two-color, white-core paper. What does that mean? It is a white paper printed in full color on each side. One side has a dark shade, and the other side has a lighter shade of the same color.

While two-tone cardstock isn’t a new concept, it is a new addition to the Stampin’ Up! product family. We think you’ll love the extensive color offerings, the slightly lighter weight than traditional cardstock, and the versatility it gives you for your projects.

The Advantages of Two-Tone Cardstock

One of the biggest advantages of using two-tone cardstock is how versatile it is. There are several techniques you can use with two-tone cardstock that aren’t possible or are more difficult to do with standard cardstock. These techniques include tearing, distressing, and tone-on-tone layering, just to name a few. The lighter weight also makes it great to use with e-cutters.

This first card is a perfect example of how two-tone cardstock adds subtle dimension with zero extra effort!

I also used Strawberry Slush on the flowers, I just love the dimension you get from the light and dark sides. The soft contrast between the two sides creates a layered, professional look—without needing multiple colors! Simple. Elegant. Effective. 💙

I used both sides of the Petunia Pop cardstock to create depth and contrast on this next card—without ever switching colors! 🎨

💜 The large layer is the darker side of Petunia Pop
💗 The smaller layer is the lighter side
🖋 And I stamped directly onto the lighter side using Petunia Pop ink for a perfect tone-on-tone effect!

This simple trick really brings your layers to life—and makes your supplies go even further!.

I had so much fun creating the waves on this card—and here’s the secret: I used both sides of Pool Party cardstock and tore each piece by hand. ✂️

The best part? The white core of the paper peeks through the torn edges, adding a soft, frothy look that’s perfect for ocean waves! 🌊.

Check out this gorgeous butterfly card—see that texture? I used a sanding block to lightly sand the raised embossed areas, revealing the lighter core of the Basic Black cardstock. It’s an easy technique that adds instant dimension and makes your design pop! 🦋
